Additionally, he has significant experience in and knowledge of the nuclear, fossil, and oil & gas markets, which comprise SI’s three largest business areas. Van Velsor has served in multiple leadership positions and has been a champion for innovation, introducing new technologies to the business, developing strategic relationships and licensing agreements with outside organizations, and establishing SI as a preferred NDE R&D contractor with multiple industry consortiums. He joined SI in 2011 through the acquisition of a guided wave testing services business that he had co-developed with his previous employer. Van Velsor is currently a Senior Associate and the Director of the NDE & Instrumentation group in the Energy Services organization, focused on the deployment of advanced testing and monitoring methods to support and enhance SI’s engineering capabilities. Mike will also hold a secondary role of Business Development in the SI Nuclear Business Unit, where he will use his experience and industry contacts to promote SI engineering technology to the global fleet.ĭr. ![]() Mike will bring the broad range of experiences to SI to drive improvement in project management in order to achieve next-level performance and customer satisfaction. ![]() ![]() From a commercial standpoint, Mike led the Business Development Departments for two different 75+ Million dollar businesses to achieve substantial top-line growth. Selected accomplishments in the operations realm during that time included building and leading the Westinghouse Balance of Plant Engineering Department that included over 100 engineers, and leading the commercial deployment of a new alloy 600 mitigation technology in the US. During his 25 year career in the nuclear industry, Mike has held a variety of leadership roles that spanned operations and business development. Mike comes to SI following tenures at Westinghouse Electric and Framatome. Tony’s leadership skills have given him the ability to work closely with both customers and partners to ensure lasting and mutually beneficial relationships. Throughout the nuclear industry, Tony is a recognized subject matter expert with expertise in formulating business strategy and direction, employee development and retention, cross-functional matrix leadership, component design, analysis, system engineering, product and project management, and contract negotiations. He also worked for predecessor companies of Framatome which included Framatome Nuclear Technologies and Babcock & Wilcox in various engineering, services, and project leadership positions. Prior to his role with BWXT, he served as Vice President for Framatome’s North American New Builds business group responsible for all aspects of nuclear new plant deployment activities in the United States and Canada. Nuclear Energy group at BWX Technologies where he was responsible for all operations related to field and engineering services. In 2013-2016, he served as Vice President of the U.S. Tony previously held the role of Senior Vice President of Products and Engineering and the role of Vice President of Customer Accounts and Government Affairs in the Framatome North American platform. With more than 30 years of progressive executive leadership in diverse areas of nuclear energy, Tony serves as the Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer for Structural Integrity. There he provided financial and commercial leadership, plus for five years was CEO of AEP’s subsidiary, Numanco, a provider of staff augmentation services. Marano also held several senior leadership roles at American Electric Power (AEP), a power utility company with electric transmission/distribution networks as well as nuclear, coal, natural gas and hydro generation assets. Prior to Westinghouse, he held executive leadership positions with AREVA NP (currently Framatome) and GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy. Marano’s career spans over 35 years in provider and supplier sides of the power generation industry. Previously, Marano served as Westinghouse President, Americas and EMEA sales regions for four years, driving strategic revenue growth in a challenging nuclear market. Marano joins SI following a brief retirement from Westinghouse Electric Company, where he previously was Chief Operating Officer where he oversaw core global products and services and played a key role in the company’s emergence from bankruptcy. ![]()
